2023 Summer Games Mountain Bike Track

mtn bike FB

UPDATE: July 26, 2022

We are currently looking for volunteers from the community to come out Aug 13, 2022 starting @ 8am to help with the hand work for the mountain bike course.  We will be meeting at the SSSR and will then head out to the course to do hand raking, pruning, and leveling in areas that could not be reached by machinery.

We are asking that you register in advance so that we can make sure there is enough food for the volunteers for lunch.

If you have any further questions please reach out to leq@town.blackdiamond.ab.ca

We are looking forward to meeting you all!  We will have as much supplies as we can get our hands on, but if you have rakes and pruners, we could use what you have.

Some people may have noticed some machinery clearing pathway along the escarpment below the pump track.  This area is municipal reserve land that will be used for a small portion of the Mountain Bike track that has been discussed regularly in the news and in our newsletter for the 2023 Summer Games.

We understand concerns from the community when they see large machinery coming in; some are worried that a bunch of trees are going to be bulldozed to make room for the track. This is what we are trying to avoid.

Overall, there will be some disruption from the machines that you have already seen along the escarpment; however, the track will be utilizing a large trail system that is already in place thanks to the local deer and cyclists in the lower level across the storm drains.  We will be cleaning up those existing trails by hand along with some pruning of plants along the sides.  Construction is to work around the trees on the escarpment (there may be a couple that get disturbed) and try to do the least amount of interruption.

In total the 5km track will mostly be built on Turner Valley Golf Course private land thanks to an agreement between the town and the course, and will also utilize the newly expanded (almost completed) pump track..

If you have any further questions or would like to volunteer to help work on the new trail system please reach out to lesq@town.blackdiamond.ab.ca

We would like to thank the volunteers that are currently working towards getting the track completed along with Pettersen Contracting.
