Mayor's Message

Welcome to Black Diamond and our Town's new web page. Our goal is to ensure that the information and services we can provide on this site are useful and keep you informed.

The Town of Black Diamond is in the Heart of the Cowboy Trail, surrounded by agriculture and is also the Gateway to Kananaskis Country. A friendly small town atmosphere and the extraordinary beauty of the surrounding area have made Black Diamond a unique and special place. Our history as a boomtown has been preserved through the restoration of authentic boomtown buildings, on our historic main street.

With a population of over 1900 people - and growing - Black Diamond is located 52 km southwest of Calgary at the junction of Highways 7 and 22. The Gateway to Kananaskis Country, Sandy McNabb Recreation Area and the Bow Crow Forestry Area provide residents and tourists with a year-round outdoor playground. The Lions Campground located in Centennial Park, on the west side of town along the river, now has a total of 59 sites, 34 with full hook-ups, 23 with power only & 2 with no services.

Quality of Life is an expression very much alive in Black Diamond. There are many local clubs and organizations available to adults and youth alike, as well as a thriving artistic and cultural community. I encourage all citizens to get involved in our community and there are many ways to play a part in making Black Diamond an even better place to live, work and play.

Amenities in Black Diamond include a refrigerated outdoor skating rink (seasonal), an indoor arena, and an attached curling club. Oilfield's General Hospital, seniors' residences and lodge, and 9-1-1 help to ensure our health and safety. Policing is provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and two full-time Bylaw/Community Peace Officers. Black Diamond also has an outstanding volunteer Fire Department. We have two excellent schools; C. Ian McLaren (elementary), and Oilfields Junior/Senior High School. The many small businesses in our community can provide just about anything you are looking for. There is an 18-hole golf course and outdoor swimming pool located in Turner Valley, just 3 km away.

Whether you live here, are looking for a new place to call home, relocating your business, planning a visit or just browsing, we are a town that specializes in that friendly small town atmosphere. Discover Black Diamond and visit us online often.

Unearth a beautiful gem in the Heart of the Cowboy Trail - Discover Black Diamond
