Camping in the Black Diamond Area

Nestled on the banks of the Sheep River at the west edge of town, this pleasant tree shaded campground is operated by the Foothills Lions Club and offers:

 

  • 34 sites equipped with power, water & sewer (12 with 50 amp. service)
  • 23 sites equipped with power only (2 with 50 amp. service)
  • 2 sites with no services

 

We offer tenting sites, dishwashing facilities, showers, barrier-free restroom facilities, 2 cooking shelters, fire rings, firewood, and a sanitary dumping station. An ideal location to take advantage of the area's many recreation opportunities, including canoeing, river fishing, hiking trails, playground and horseshoes.

Managed by the Foothills Lions Club, this campground is located adjacent to an outdoor swimming pool and baseball diamonds. It is fully serviced and is close to shopping, fishing and hiking. Pets are allowed on leash. Located at the entrance to Kananaskis Country near the Sheep River.

Open May - October (weather permitting).

Seasonal camping is available at many campsites and various backcountry campgrounds in the Sheep River Valley (eastern) area of Kananaskis Country. Equestrian camping is also available. Set among deep gorges and commanding peaks, the area offers:

Permits can be purchased in person at the Barrier Lake, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and Elbow Valley Visitor Information Centres during normal hours of operation.
