Property Tax Deferrals
At the May 6, 2020, Regular Meeting of Council, Council discussed the deferral of property tax payments due to COVID-19. The following motion was passed:
Res. 2020-175 Moved by Councillor Brian Marconi that Council agree to defer the date that 2020 property tax payments are due to September 30th, 2020 and penalties are to be applied to October 1, 2020, and create a temporary bylaw to address the penalty date deferral. MOTION CARRIED
As with any deferral program, if you can make either full or partial payments you are encouraged to do so. If you cannot make a payment, the deferral program is available to help you out during these uncertain times.
Property tax notices are generally sent out in late May or early June. Notification of mailing of the 2020 property tax notices will take place on the Town’s website, social media and in the Okotoks Western Wheel.
If you are currently a participant in the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) program and you need to defer payments, you can do this by visiting the Town’s website Property Taxes page and filling out the online TIPP Termination Form. In terminating your TIPP participation, the pre-authorized payments will be stopped, and then recalculated when you are ready to resume in the program. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to re-enroll in the program when they are ready. Penalties may be applicable, in accordance with the TIPP Bylaw.
If you require assistance or have any questions about deferring your property tax payment, please email the Tax & Utility Clerk or call 403-933-4348 and ask to discuss your options.
