2017 Election Candidate Registry

In accordance with requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act, the Town of Black Diamond will maintain a registry of individuals that declared their intention to be candidates in the 2017 election.  Form 3A does NOT state the office the intended candidate is running for.  That does not have to be declared until Nomination Day.

Changes to any of the information within the registry must be reported to the Municipality, within 48 hours of the changes taking effect, in writing by mail, fax or email.

2021 Election - Changes to Candidate's Campaign Financial Reporting

For the upcoming 2021 Municipal election, the Local Authorities Election Act has been amended*.  Nominations may be accepted by the Returning Officer beginning on January 1, 2021.  Nominations will cease at 12:00 noon on Nomination Day, September 7, 2021.  The extended period for nominations will remove the requirement of prior elections to file the "Intent" form (3A).  However, the Act requires that "no person shall accept a contribution or incur a campaign expense unless the person has been nominated as a candidate."  Also new for this election, all candidates must file campaign disclosure statements.

Anyone considering running for office should be sure to be aware of the new rules for campaign funding, banking and disclosure.  These can be found in Part 5.1 of the Local Authorities Election Act, section 147.1 through 147.96, inclusive.  Requirements set out in this Part of the Act are the sole responsibility of each candidate.

*The Local Authorities Election Act is currently under revision by the Provincial Government.  Bill 29 was given first reading on June 24, 2020.  The information above regarding the 2021 municipal election is subject to change until the Act amendments are published and staff can provide any changes to the required information.  Please check back regularly.

Election Day 2021 is October 18, 2021.
