Voter Identification

Voter Identification became a requirement for municipal elections at the 2013 General Election.  The intent of this is to prove both your identity and your address (place of residence).  A list of acceptable forms of identification has been prepared to assist you in coming to the voting station prepared.  It is understood that we use post office boxes as our main source of addressing in Black Diamond.  Your driver's license will most likely show your mailing address, and that is acceptable, if it shows a Black Diamond box number.  If your drivers license shows a mailing address in another town, you will be asked to provide one of the other forms of identification that more clearly proves your residence in Black Diamond.

I've never voted before..... what do I need to do?

  1. When you enter the voting station, have your identification ready.  The election staff will verify your identification and give you a Form 8 Voting Register, which is your oath that you are an eligible voter, to fill out and sign.  Then you will be given your ballot(s), initialed by the election workers, and directed to a voting compartment.
  2. In the privacy of that area (you must go there alone, you cannot take someone to assist you, unless you require physical assistance to complete the voting process....there is a slightly different process to accomplish that) you will then mark your ballot (click the link to see a correctly marked ballot) to indicate the candidate(s) of your choice.
  3. Be sure to fold your ballots back the way they were presented to you - this is to preserve the confidentiality of your vote, while still allowing the election worker to verify the initials on the ballot.
  4. Return your folded ballot to the election worker who provided it to you.  They need to verify the initials and then you will place your ballot in the ballot box.
You have now voted in your very first election.  Congratulations!  Please leave the voting station at this time, to preserve the confidentiality of the other voters.

UNOFFICIAL election results will be posted to the Town's website following the completion of the ballot count on election day, and released to the media at the same time.  Election results are not final until 12:00noon on Friday October 20, 2017.
